Expectations were high going into the first league game of the season against Marjon 4’s at Bull Point.
The first half started nervy and within the first 10 minutes a deflection off Defender Carley’s stick, giving her the well deserve Donkey title, gave Marjons’s the lead. But it wasn’t long until an accidental ‘special 2’ routine saw Brooke equalise, which was to be the first of many goals from well worked short corner routines. The next goal came from Michelle who ensured she wasn’t going to miss with a well placed strike that saw DS take the lead.
The next goal was well taken by Lucy following a short corner, leaving the score 3-1 to DS at half time.
Second half DS started strong and it wasn’t long until the 4th came, again from another short corner which gave Brooke her second of the match! Hard battling from all midfield and defence kept marjons out on the break and it was DS who capitalised with a well taken 2nd goal from Lucy, which came from some excellent passing which started from the back. Legs could have easily started to tire but all players kept battling and didn’t allow Marjons with much time on the ball.
A final short corner from Marjons and a well taken strike gave them their second making the final score 5-2. A great opening fixture for the Ladies 1sts who will be hoping to take the momentum through to next weekend and an away game against Dart.
Player went to Bronwyn (the legs)who literally didn’t stop running the whole game and an added bonus with no donkey title for her this week.
