Written by Men's First Team DoD and South African - Dan Willis (Sagg)

It was a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon as DS and Bodmin went into battle. Both teams came out looking strong with Bodmin having more possession but were getting caught out by some amazing counter attacks by DS’s middle and front line.

First goal came off a counter attack by Dom ( the speedster) intercepting a pass and driving down the base line to then pass across to yours truly (Sagg) who then slotted it passed the goalie, 1-0 to DS. On the front foot, DS started to play better as more goal scoring opportunities started to present themselves. Both Riggers and Brian taking full advantage of the opportunities and bagging 1 each to take it to 3-0. There was a slight scare as Andy with his big feet decide to stop the ball with his foot giving away a penalty stroke ( should have been a card and DOD in my opinion). Chris who was having a cracker of a game stood up to the occasion and with his laser eye focus, kept the ball out the net keeping it 3-0.

DS came out looking stronger in the 2nd half and everything began to take shape with JB letting nothing get past him leading to many more counter attacks. Don’t know if it was the rain or something in the air but Bodmin couldn’t keep our goal scoring machines, Riggers and Brian out the goal as the both slotted another 1 each making it 5-0. Bodmin managed to pull one back in the second half as they caught DS on the back foot but the nails were in the coffin as DS ended up victorious with a 5-1 win.

Chris was man of the match with an excellent display in the goal with Riggers and JB sharing 2nd and yours truly, Sagg coming 3rd. DOD for today was Sagg for being South African ( spiteful English people ) and having too much time on the ball which resulted in missing a goal scoring opportunity.

Overall, it was a good day of hockey played by both teams and especially for South Africa as they beat England to be the Rugby World Cup Champions! ??
